The Onam celebrations at Baselios Marthoma Mathews II Training College were held in grand splendour on 27th August, Wednesday, marking a day of joy, tradition, and togetherness. The event was made truly memorable through the wholehearted efforts of our union members and batchmates, whose dedication ensured its success.
The day commenced with a spectacular khoshayathra, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of the chenda melam. Students adorned in elegant traditional attire joined the procession alongside the majestic Mahabali, filling the atmosphere with festive cheer. The rally culminated at the college by 10:15 a.m., followed by a dazzling padakkam pottikal, setting an exciting tone for the rest of the day.
After a short refreshment break, the inaugural ceremony took place in the presence of our Manager and Principal, who extended warm Onam wishes to all. This was followed by a series of cultural performances that showcased the talent and creativity of our students. The graceful Thiruvathira performed by both first- and second-year students was a visual delight, while the energetic flash mob and various stage programmes kept the audience engaged and entertained.
By 12:30 p.m., the campus buzzed with excitement as the much-awaited Onam games began. Traditional competitions like Kasera Kali, Soochiyum Noolum, Kalam Adi, Candy Race, Sundharikku Pottu Thodal, and Biscuits Catcher brought endless laughter and enthusiasm among students and teachers alike.
At 1:30 p.m., everyone gathered for the sumptuous Onasadhya, complete with delicious payasam. The meal, lovingly served by the students, reflected the true spirit of sharing and celebration. Post-lunch, the festivities continued with thrilling games, including the crowd-favourite Vadam Vali and the artistic Athapookalam competition. Both first-year and second-year students competed with immense team spirit, and our team emerged as proud winners.
The day concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where our Principal and Manager Achan honoured the winners and announced the overall house champions. The spirit of friendly competition and unity was evident throughout.
The event came to a close with a warm vote of thanks by Sithusha teacher, followed by words of appreciation from our Principal. As the formal programme ended, everyone lingered to share laughter, photos, and joyful conversations.
The Onam celebration of 2025 will remain etched in our hearts — a day that beautifully blended tradition, happiness, and togetherness, leaving behind cherished memories for all.
